Prayers please

The people are beginning to start the journey to Toliara for the Synod Meetings at the Cathedral Compound which start on July 20th, and for the 10th Anniversary Celebrations the following weekend.

Please pray for safety on the roads, which do not make for easy travelling (an understatement!) Some are travelling by motorbike, some by car, some on taxi brousse.

Rev Gaston, Rev Tovo and Rev Yvon, along with Rev Antsa’s husband, Liva, set off on Tuesday to travel 310 miles from Ambovombe area to Toliara. They are taking two days for this 12 hour journey by motorbike so that they are less likely to have an accident from being overtired. They are stopping overnight in Ampanihy.

Pray for strength and stamina for all travellers, especially the motorcycle riders as a long distance on bad roads can be very exhausting. Pray too for all vehicles to remain in working condition during the journeys.

Please pray for the discernment of God’s will during the Synod.

And finally, please pray for good health during the meetings and through the anniversary celebrations, and for God’s blessing on all activities.

10th Anniversary of the Diocese of Toliara

Dear friends

Greetings from the Diocese of Toliara

We would like to invite to pray for the Diocese,  to celebrate God-with-us, so that the Diocese of Toliara during this 10th year will be renewed spiritually, will offer more disciples and servants to Christ, and be able to stand by contributing joyfully.

May the Diocese be a loving and a living family of God.

May all the leaders, laity and clergy recommit  themselves for God’s mission in this one of the world’s most vulnerable situations.

Blessings

Bishop Samitiana

Dedication of “Cheryl’s Place”

Cheryl’s Place is a guest house on the grounds of the Cathedral complex and is now an economic resource for the Diocese of Toliara.

On 20th July, 2021, Cheryl’s Place was dedicated, and officially opened. A service of prayer was held around all the rooms of the building, and prayers offered for all who will live in it in the future.

Responsibility for the guesthouse was passed from the Building Construction Department to the Economic Development Department.

Dr Manampy and Dr Nadia are the first tenants, renting part of the upstairs of the building, where they also have a consulting room.

May you rest well in God’s presence with God’s people.
Peace be with you.

Beginning to build at Ambovombe

Dean Donne, Rev Gaston and some of the laity pray, as construction of a building for Ambovombe Church starts today. Thanks be to God for the land and the funds to build this church.  May it be a holy place where many come to worship our Lord God and are drawn into His loving presence.

DEAN OF ST PATRICK’S BIBLE COLLEGE

We are very pleased to announce the arrival of Rev. Adam Boulter and his family ( wife Beth, Joseph (11), Hannah (7) and Benjamin (3)) in Toliara.

Bishop Todd has appointed Rev. Adam as Dean and Principal of St Patrick’s Bible College, which is training up both lay evangelists, and preparing candidates for ordination training.

The plan with the candidates for priesthood is that Adam will arrange the initial training, and then after a year or two, when they are ready, the diocese will send them for three years of theological study at the University in the capital. That study is being sponsored, but their educational level is too low to get in the University without pre-training, which the Bible college will give. The college is very basic at the moment, with hardly any books, commentaries or text books, but we are blessed with a number of people who can help deliver the courses. The language barrier is also a problem so we are looking at hiring an interpreter.

Rev. Adam was formerly priest in charge of Poitou Charente, France, and prior to that he was the Mission to Seafarers Chaplain to the port of Aqaba in Jordan. He is also a noted painter of landscapes and religious art.
